The Supreme Court passed on reviewing a Florida high school’s claim that it has the right to broadcast prayers over the public address system before football games.
The case denied on Monday centered on the Florida High School Athletic Association’s decision to reject Cambridge Christian School’s request to say a prayer over the PA system ahead of a state championship game against another Christian school in 2015.
The appeal asked whether the pre-game prayer represented “government speech,” in which traditional First Amendment protections wouldn’t apply.
