State Coalition Sues New York Over ‘Climate Superfund’ Law (1)

West Virginia and nearly two dozen other states sued New York over plans to charge fossil fuel companies $75 billion for climate change damage, saying the measure is an unconstitutional “slippery slope.”

The lawsuit, led by West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey (R), was filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of New York. Twenty-one other states, including Texas and Louisiana, coal producer Alpha Natural Resources, and a handful of fossil fuel interest groups joined the complaint, which challenges New York’s Climate Change Superfund Act.
