Yaira Dubin, who recently joined the Justice Department, made her Supreme Court debut Wednesday—one of just four women arguing during the court’s October sitting.
Two of the women, including Dubin, work for the US solicitor general, highlighting that office’s continued importance in promoting diversity within the Supreme Court bar.
The office, along with attorneys from state and local governments, sent the majority of women to the lectern last term. In total, 23 female government attorneys argued during the 2021 term, while law firms and academia sent 15. Some of those attorneys argued more than one case.
