Skadden has added Michael S. Ringler, a senior M&A attorney with a focus on tech and life sciences, as a partner in its Palo Alto office, after grabbing him from Wilson Sonsini.

Ringler advises boards, special committees and management teams on complex strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures. He also advised boards and special committees when there are challenges to corporate control such as hostile takeovers and proxy contests.

His recent high-value transactional work includes advising CA Technologies in its $19 billion sale to Broadcom and AppDynamics in its $3.8 billion sale to Cisco. He also represented Trulia in its $3.5 billion merger with Zillow; and Flatiron Health in its $2 billion sale to Roche.

“Mike has a well-established reputation as a trusted adviser to boards and C-level executives,” Leif King, head of Skadden’s Palo Alto Corporate and M&A practice, said in a statement.

For his part, Ringler said, “I have worked across the table from Skadden lawyers on numerous occasions, and I have seen firsthand the skill, creativity and client service they bring to bear.”

Skadden ranks third out of major law firms for deal volume representing principals in the first half of 2019, according to Bloomberg’s latest M&A legal advisory league tables.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Ringler has worked at Wilson Sonsini for more than 20 years, though he reportedly did a brief stint at Kirkland & Ellis’ San Francisco office back in 2013.

Wilson Sonsini is known for its representation of Silicon Valley startups and venture capital funds. Recently it launched a new compliance tool through its software subsidiary SixFifty, that will help users comply with California’s complex new privacy law.
