Sixth Circuit Judge Wary of Gun Group’s Michigan FBI Check Case

The Sixth Circuit’s chief judge on Monday appeared skeptical that a challenge to the federal government’s 2020 determination that Michigan concealed-carry permit holders must undergo federal background checks to buy new guns should still be in court.

That’s because the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in May rescinded an advisory from President Donald Trump’s first term that said Michigan firearms dealers must conduct FBI background checks for all prospective buyers, regardless of whether that person has a state permit.
