Siemens Accused of Using Unlicensed VMware Data-Center Software

Several Siemens units infringed VMware LLC copyrights by downloading and using unlicensed copied of data-center virtualization software products, VMware alleged in a lawsuit.

Siemens AG, Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc., and other Siemens entities were required to purchase licenses for each copy of VMware’s software products it used, according to a complaint filed March 21 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. Siemens provided VMware a list in September 24, however, showing it had deployed thousands more product copies than licenses purchased, and the Germany-based engineering giant threatened legal action if VMware didn’t provide support services for ...
