Michael Gans, the longest serving federal appeals court clerk, may be feeling déjà vu as the US government braces for a possible shutdown.
He’s gone through nearly a dozen during four decades at the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in St. Louis, and, once again, the court he helps run will stay open.
“This is something we’ve gone through before,” Gans said in an interview. “We know how to keep going.”
