Sharp, Midea Lose Appeal Bid to Exit Class Microwave Lawsuit

Midea Microwave and Electrical Appliances Manufacturing Co., a Sharp Corp. subsidiary, and their American affiliates aren’t entitled to the “extraordinary remedy” of directing a federal court in Pennsylvania to undo a transfer of a proposed class action over allegedly unsafe microwave handles to a court in California, the Third Circuit ruled.

The companies may raise a jurisdiction issue—their main concern stemming from the transfer order—in the district court in California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit said Wednesday.
