Seventh Circuit’s David Hamilton to Step Down in 2022 (1)

U.S. Circuit Judge David Hamilton announced plans to step down as an active judge on the Chicago-based federal appellate court, opening another seat for President Joe Biden to fill.

In a Wednesday letter to Biden, Hamilton, 64, said he plans to take senior status—a form of semi-retirement—after May 31, 2022, when he is eligible to do so, and upon the appointment of his successor.

Judges who take senior status remain involved in a lower number of cases, while relinquishing their duties as an active judge and opening their seat. Hamilton won’t be eligible until he turns 65 in May. ...
