Senate Panel Advances Trump’s Pick for Justice Department No. 3

An attorney for Donald Trump associates was advanced by a Senate panel to serve as third-in-command at the Justice Department.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday 12-10, along party lines, in favor of the nomination of former Akin Gump counsel Stanley Woodward to be associate attorney general, sending him to the Senate floor for consideration.

Woodward, who founded his own firm after leaving Akin Gump, is the latest Trump nominee for the Justice Department who previously represented President Donald Trump or his allies against criminal charges.
