The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced a slate of judicial nominees who’d bring unprecedented diversity to US trial courts in the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
Amir Ali, who has led the MacArthur Justice Center since 2021 and is the son of Egyptian immigrants, was approved along party lines in his bid for a seat on the District of Columbia’s federal trial court.
The committee also approved nominees who’d be the first judges of color on the US trial courts in Rhode Island and in western Virginia, if confirmed.
