A court security officer shot a man armed with multiple sharp weapons outside a federal courthouse in Philadelphia Tuesday, according to the US Marshals Service.
The man, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a hospital for surgery, said Robert Clark, Supervisory Deputy US Marshal in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
The interaction began after the man parked a minivan in a restricted zone near the James A. Byrne US Courthouse at around 9:30 a.m. A court security officer approached him and the man brandished at least one sharp weapon, Clark said.
