Second Amendment Didn’t Save Pharmacist With Concealed Weapon From Getting Fired

Walgreen Co. was within its rights when it fired a pharmacist after he tried to ward off robbers at work with a concealed hand gun he was legally carrying, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit held June 2 (Hoven v. Walgreen Co., 2014 BL 152127, 6th Cir., No. 13-1011).

The store didn’t violate Michigan public policy when it fired the pharmacist, the court said in an opinion by Judge Karen Nelson Moore.

Plaintiff Jeremy Hoven began as a full-time pharmacist with Walgreen in 2006. In 2007, he was subjected to an armed robbery at work. ...
