SEC Republican Warns Against Rushing to End Biden Proxy Policy

Republican SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda on Thursday cautioned the agency against moving too quickly next year to roll back a Biden-era policy which helps investors press companies on environmental and social issues.

The Securities and Exchange Commission during the second Trump administration is expected to scrap 2021 guidance that made it more difficult for companies to keep environmental and social proposals off ballots at their annual meetings. Many companies already are preparing for annual meetings in the spring, potentially causing major disruptions for firms if the SEC tosses the guidance in early 2025, Uyeda said.
