The Securities and Exchange Commission Feb. 23 warned individuals about a “bogus” e-mail claiming to be from the SEC’s new Office of the Whistleblower.
The e-mail, the SEC said in a release, purportedly alerts recipients that the SEC received an “anonymous tip on alleged misconduct” about their company. The e-mail warns readers to respond to the SEC’s complaint within 14 days or face an SEC investigation.
The e-mail directs readers to click on a link to the SEC’s complaint, which contains “malicious software,” the SEC said.
