SDNY Judge Lorna Schofield Has Advice for Attorneys

Judge Lorna G. Schofield learned how to deal with aggressive male litigators as a young attorney prior to joining the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

It was one of many lessons she picked up in decades as a litigator on her way to becoming the first Filipino American Article III judge.

“I was a young litigator having an argument with a male adversary,” and had just finished reading “Gorillas in the Mist,” a book “about silverback gorillas—the sort of alpha male and how they challenged each other,” Schofield told Bloomberg BNA by telephone.
