- Multi-billion dollar pipeline clash pits conservation against industry
- Podcast hits the ol’ Appalachian Trail
The U.S. Supreme Court kicks off its February argument session with a big money environmental dispute involving an industrial quest to put a natural gas pipeline through the Appalachian Trail.
The justices will hear arguments Feb. 24 over whether the multi-billion dollar Atlantic Coast Pipeline was properly approved under federal law—conservationists claim it wasn’t. The trail stretches some 2,200 miles, from Maine to Georgia. The contested 600-mile Atlantic Coast Pipeline would cross beneath the trail as it winds from West Virginia, through neighboring Virginia and into North Carolina.
For a deep dive preview of the clash, Bloomberg Environment’s Ellen Gilmer heads out to the trail and talks to both sides to get their views.
