Burleson Independent School District must conduct a special election after it wrongfully excluded a board of trustees candidate’s application, letting the incumbent run unopposed, a Texas appeals court said.

Nona Reed, Place 1 candidate, sought to require the Texas Court of Appeals, Second District, to officially recognize her candidacy in the board.

BISD had incorrectly concluded that Reed failed to qualify as a candidate because of errors in her application. Through a unanimous vote of the board, including the incumbent, her candidacy was rejected.
