Russian’s Conviction for $90 Million Hack-and-Trade Scam Upheld

The conspiracy and securities fraud convictions of a Russian businessman were upheld despite his claim that venue wasn’t proper in the court where his trial was held.

Venue was proper in the US District Court of the District of Massachusetts, Judge Patti B. Saris said Wednesday.

Vladislav Klyushin and his co-conspirators were located in Russia, but used a server in Boston as part of their scheme to hack into the computers of two American filing agents, Toppan Merrill and DFIN in 2018 and 2019, and obtain confidential information about the agents’ clients.
