Rule Gives Nonlawyer ‘Legal Technicians’ Limited Practice Rights in Washington State

A divided Washington Supreme Court June 15 adopted a rule creating a new breed of nonlawyer “limited license legal technicians” who will be allowed to provide certain types of legal services in civil matters without a lawyer’s supervision (In re Adoption of New APR 28—Limited Practice Rule for Limited License Legal Technicians, Wash., No. 25700-A-1005).
