Rosemont Open-Pit Copper Mine in Arizona Halted (1)

Hudbay Minerals Inc. will appeal a federal district court’s ruling that halted its plans to start an open-pit copper mine in Arizona’s Coronado National Forest.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona decision July 31 found the U.S. Forest Service erred by approving the project after previously finding it was inconsistent with federal standards. The ruling is a win for environmental and tribal groups that sued the agency, arguing it didn’t fully consider the environmental impacts of the Rosemont Copper project.
