Republicans Seek Tougher Penalty for Protests at Justices’ Homes

A group of Republican senators proposed legislation to increase prison sentences for people arrested for trying to intimidate US Supreme Court justices by protesting outside their homes.

The legislation, led by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), would up the maximum penalty from one to five years in prison for violating a federal law, which makes it a crime to try influence a judge or obstruct their duties by picketing, or parading, in or near a building they occupy.
