Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is requesting an ethics investigation into Judge Beryl Howell of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, over a recent speech in which the judge lamented a “downright troubling moment in this country.”
In a Friday complaint to the Judicial Council of the DC Circuit, Stefanik claimed that Howell, an Obama appointee who previously served as chief judge of the DC federal court, gave a “highly inappropriate political speech” last month at the Women’s White Collar Defense Association’s gala, where the judge was accepting an award.
