Raytheon Whistleblower Keeps $1 Million Jury Win in Appeal

A jury properly awarded a former Raytheon Co. engineer $1,043,000 for the contractor’s violation of the Defense Contractor Whistleblower Protection Act, the Tenth Circuit affirmed Wednesday.

Bruce Casias presented enough evidence to show that Raytheon demoted him for reporting that he was told by a superior to falsify test results on a military GPS program, a three-judge panel for the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled in a nonprecedential decision.

Raytheon argued that Casias didn’t face an adverse employment action, as required by the act, and was merely reassigned.
