Puerto Rico Club Wants to Revive Challenge to Cockfighting Ban

A Puerto Rico cockfighting club said Nov. 19 it would ask the First Circuit to block the pending federal ban on the commonwealth’s “national sport,” after a judge refused to step in despite island-wide opposition to the law.

The cockfighting ban, which passed last year as part of the 2018 farm bill, is set to take effect Dec. 1.
