Progressive groups are urging the Senate to make filling every judicial vacancy with diverse nominees who are committed to civil and human rights a priority in 2024.
“With nearly 100 lifetime judicial vacancies across the nation, the work of building an equal justice judiciary must accelerate,” more than 100 left-leaning organizations said in a letter addressed to US senators in a chamber narrowly controlled by Democrats.
The letter comes as President Joe Biden has so far appointed 168 Senate-confirmed judges, including 108 women and 111 people of color. Biden has reshaped federal courts with more racially and professionally diverse judges. ...
