Privacy Rules Pause Harms Consumers, California Agency Says (1)

The California Privacy Protection Agency on Friday asked a state appeals court to reinstate privacy regulations that a lower court put on hold for a year.

The agency, the only regulatory body in the nation dedicated solely to privacy, told the California Third District Court of Appeal the postponement has to be reversed because it is harming consumer rights. The appeal comes after business groups convinced a lower court that the rules’ start date should be pushed into 2024 because the agency missed its 2022 deadline to issue the regulations, giving affected companies insufficient time to prepare.
