An organization aimed at promoting independent candidates for elected office failed to convince the District of Columbia Circuit that the Federal Election Commission ignored bias and partisanship in the selection process for those who may participate in U.S. presidential debates.
Level the Playing Field challenged a 15% polling requirement and the FEC’s refusal to prohibit polling thresholds. The FEC also failed to recognize bias and partisanship within the Commission on Presidential Debates, which violated regulations barring debate sponsors from endorsing, supporting or opposing political candidates, its suit said.
