Prenatal Genetic Testing Suit Bounced by Rhode Island Top Court

A Rhode Island woman lost a suit seeking damages for harm caused by a genetic condition because hospitals, doctors, and laboratories had no duty to warn her parents of the potential for injury, the state’s top court said.

Caregivers in the state owe no duty to a child born with physical defects who alleges that they deprived her parents of information that would have led them not to conceive or to terminate a pregnancy, the Rhode Island Supreme Court said.
