PODCAST: Funniest Moments from High Court’s 2017 Term

What do carrot dinners, hopeful boyfriends, and French comedies have in common? They were all the focus of some of the funniest moments at the Supreme Court’s oral arguments this term.

Justice Stephen G. Breyer was the funniest justice this term, according to Boston University School of Law professor Jay Wexler, who measures "[laughter]” at the court—that is, the number of times that a Supreme Court justice’s comments during arguments prompt laughter in the courtroom and it is noted in the transcript. Breyer caused the courtroom to break out in laughter 38 times, according to Wexler.
