Philip Morris, Other Tobacco Companies Rebuffed Again by SCOTUS

The U.S. Supreme Court won’t review several decisions in favor of Florida smokers and deceased smokers’ families, the court announced Feb. 25.

The decision follows 26 previous attempts by Philip Morris USA Inc., R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and Liggett Group LLC to challenge federal and state courts’ personal injury and wrongful death judgments before the high court. The court has declined review each time.

The use of factual findings about tobacco companies’ conduct from 1996 in currently pending Florida smoking cases violates the companies’ constitutional rights, they argued in several petitions for review.
