P&G Beats Consumer Protection Lawsuit Over Alleged Greenwashing

Procter & Gamble Co.‘s “Nature Fusion” personal care product labeling might resemble “greenwashing,” but it isn’t misleading as a matter of consumer protection law, the Ninth Circuit said, affirming dismissal of a suit against the company.

Sean McGinity sued the company in the US District Court for the Northern District of California over products labeled “Nature Fusion,” like Pantene shampoo and conditioner. McGinity argued the products contain potentially harmful ingredients and are substantially unnatural. The label, which features an image of an avocado on a green leaf, is misleading, McGinity contended.
