OSHA Needs More Oil and Gas Rules After Fatal Fire, Board Says

The lack of proper federal workplace safety regulations for the oil and gas industry was a key contributor to a fatal accident at a Texas well, the federal chemical safety board found.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has historically exempted onshore oil and gas drilling and servicing from several federal standards, leaving the industry with minimal regulations, the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) said in a reportreleased Tuesday.
