Old Navy to Face Trial on Black Woman’s Shoplifting Detention

A Black woman detained following an Old Navy employee’s incorrect report of suspected shoplifting can proceed with her suit against the retailer for false imprisonment and negligence, the Fourth Circuit said Friday.

A reasonable jury considering all the evidence could find Old Navy LLC and its parent corporation Gap Inc. liable, the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said.
