An Oklahoma attorney being investigated by the state bar for several alleged ethics lapses, including altering a medical release, was allowed to resign from the bar.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court accepted George William Wiland III’s resignation, noting in its Feb. 24 opinion that “resignation pending disciplinary proceedings is tantamount to disbarment,” and so Wiland will have to wait five years to petition for reinstatement.
In an affidavit filed by the court, Wiland admitted being aware of three grievances filed against him that the state bar was investigating.
