Oil Companies Take Hawaii Climate Decision to Supreme Court (1)

Oil majors are once again taking to the US Supreme Court and asking justices to settle whether state courts are appropriate to rule on issues of national and global greenhouse gases.

Sunoco LP, Aloha Petroleum Ltd., Exxon Mobil Corp., and others are asking the Supreme Court to weigh in on whether federal law precludes state law claims that deal with interstate emissions and international global warming issues.

The petition was filed on Wednesday, and it echoes language from decisions out of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Delaware Superior Court ...
