A California federal judge halted the use of excessive crowd control tactics by the Oakland Police Department, after protest organizers showed they were likely to succeed on claims against the city under the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
According to a complaint filed by Anti Police-Terror Project, the Oakland Police Department and departments from other municipalities used a variety of impermissible tactics against peaceful protesters, causing physical injuries and trauma, and discouraging members of the Oakland community from participating in lawful protest activities.
