Nurse Must Face Suit Over Inmate Who Died After Hitting Head

The estate of an inmate who hit her head and died can sue a nurse who gave her an ibuprofen instead of sending her to a hospital, the Sixth Circuit ruled.

Nurse James Gray II knew that Jennifer Ohlinger “had lost consciousness and that she had possibly hit her head and experienced seizures.” That and Gray’s failure to call a doctor or take Ohlinger to the hospital as required by Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail guidelines is enough that a reasonable jury could find that he acted recklessly “in the face of an unjustifiably high risk to Ohlinger’s health,” the court ...
