NRA Sees Lawyers’ Fees Slashed After Winning Fight Over L.A. Law

A federal judge in California granted the National Rifle Association less than a third of what it asked for in attorneys’ fees following the group’s successful challenge to a Los Angeles ordinance, citing “excessive and duplicative billing.”

The NRA won a challenge on First Amendment grounds to a law requiring contractors in the city to disclose all business ties to the organization. The group sought to recover $472,760 in attorneys’ fees, but Judge Steven V. Wilson awarded $143,000.
