Noncitizen Detention Policy for Nevada Class Thrown Out by Judge

A federal judge in Nevada has declared that a class of detained noncitizens has the right to a bond hearing, siding against the Trump administration’s effort to keep them in immigration detention without the chance to argue for their release.

Judge Richard Boulware II granted partial summary judgment in the class case Monday, noting that the government’s new interpretation of immigration law flies in the face of decades of practice—including during the first Trump administration.
