No SCOTUS Relief for Plaintiffs’ Firm Over Avandia Proceeds

The U.S. Supreme Court won’t consider a plaintiffs’ law firm’s appeal of a decision requiring it to deposit 7 percent of the settlement proceeds from state-court Avandia clients into a fund to compensate attorneys in federal multidistrict litigation (Law Offices of Steven M. Johnson P.C. v. Plaintiffs’ Advisory Committee, U.S., No. 16-804, review denied 2/21/17).

The Law Offices of Steven M. Johnson P.C. represented 198 Avandia personal injury clients in Illinois state court who settled their suits against manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline.

Plaintiffs alleged the diabetes drug increased the risk of heart attack.
