N.Y. Yankees Tattoo Helps Salvadoran Stay in U.S. for Now (2)

The removal of an MS-13 gang member was halted by the Third Circuit Dec. 17, in part because the Board of Immigration Appeals didn’t properly analyze the significance of his New York Yankees tattoo.

Nelson Quinteros was convicted for conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon. At his hearing fighting removal to El Salvador under the Convention Against Torture, however, Quinteros said he originally obtained his Yankees tattoo to signify his MS-13 membership.

Quinteros presented expert testimony and a Harvard Law School study indicating that upon their arrival in El Salvador, MS-13 members are routinely questioned by the police ...
