A New Mexico law requiring a seven-day waiting period before the sale of a firearm will remain in effect despite a lawsuit asserting that the law violates the Second Amendment, a federal district court said.

Plaintiffs challenging the law failed to show entitlement to a temporary restraining order or a preliminary injunction because the waiting period is consistent with the nation’s historical tradition of regulating commercial firearms, Judge James O. Browning, of the US District Court for the District of New Mexico, said in a Monday order.
