New Justice Stevens’ Supreme Court Papers Released to Public

An additional trove of documents from Justice John Paul Stevens being released Tuesday could shed light on some of the US Supreme Court’s most controversial cases.

It’s the second release of Stevens’ documents from the Library of Congress, which will make available case files from 1984 to 2005 and includes hot-button issues like affirmative action, abortion, LGBTQ rights, and the disputed 2000 presidential election.

Stevens, who retired in 2010 and died in 2019, served on the high court for more than 34 years. During that time the Republican-appointed justice emerged as the leader of the court’s liberal wing.
