New Gun Laws Take Effect in Colorado, Challenged in Missouri

Colorado has lifted restrictions on local firearms ordinances, a move that goes counter to the choices made in other states with new gun laws.

The Colorado measure (S.B. 256), which took effect over the weekend, repealed a preemption on local gun restrictions imposed after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, in which 12 students and a teacher were murdered. The new statute gives cities and counties the authority to be more restrictive than statewide laws.
