Nevada Casino Must Defend Most of Suit Over Ransomware Attack

Riverside Resort & Casino failed to convince a federal court to dismiss much of a complaint brought on behalf of a proposed class of some 55,000 current and former employees and customers impacted by a data breach last year.

Judge Gloria M. Navarro the US District Court for the District of Nevada held that the plaintiffs had standing to sue because the threat of identity theft—even without proof of misuse—is an injury-in-fact that’s traceable to Riverside’s alleged failure to adequately protect full names and Social Security numbers.
