Hogan Lovells senior associate Mitchell Reich argued before the Supreme Court Dec. 3 in a tax refund dispute case—a rare opportunity for a law firm associate.
Neal Katyal, former acting U.S. solicitor general and seasoned Supreme Court advocate, attended the arguments as a second chair while Reich argued the case. Advancing associates and strengthening diversity are high priorities for Katyal, he told Bloomberg Tax legal reporter Aysha Bagchi.
“We in my bar have a moral obligation to do everything we possibly can to try and create these opportunities and to make our Supreme Court bar reflective of the great diversity of our nation,” he said.
