New York’s court-appointed special master-drawn congressional map drew hundreds of comments, largely criticizing his district lines, which must be finalized by Friday.
The draft map, released by Special Master Jonathan Cervas, is the basis for replacing a congressional district plan that the Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court, struck down as unconstitutional gerrymandering. He is redrawing the state Senate map, which also was struck down.
Democratic congressional incumbents largely spoke out against the map, which lumps several senior lawmakers into the same districts and would improve Republican prospects for winning a US House majority this fall.
