The Trump administration’s decision to conduct immigration raids in and around places of worship is unconstitutional, a coalition of religious organizations told a federal court Monday.
The coalition, lead by the New England Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, says that the new administration policy violates the organizations’ First Amendment rights to expressive association and religious exercise. It also violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the Administrative Procedure Act, it says.
The petition, filed in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts, is one of several lawsuits challenging the policy.
