More Audits for California State Bar in Public Safety Push (1)

California lawmakers are heightening scrutiny of attorneys, under legislation that pushes for diversity and requires that the state bar undergo another intensive audit before seeking higher dues.

Lawmakers unanimously support this year’s bill to funds the California Bar. The state Senate on Aug. 28 unanimously approved a $390 fee for California’s more than 250,000 lawyers, sending the bill back to the Assembly for a vote on amendments that enhance the bar’s ability to discipline lawyers. The Assembly concurred with the amendments Aug. 29, sending the bill to the governor on a 69-0 vote.
